6 Tarot Decks Coming Out in August of 2023

Tarot decks are one of the top forms of divination, finding popularity in age ranges as a way to help answer life questions when they’re thrown at you. Thanks to the rise in tarot divination, tarot decks are coming out regularly to showcase different art styles and takes on the tarot cards themselves.

Here are six tarot card decks you can look forward to this month in August of 2023.

1. The Dark Crystal Tarot Deck and Guidebook by Casey Gilly

If you’re a fan of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal or Labyrinth, you’ll find The Dark Crystal Tarot Deck to fit your palate quite nicely. As the name states, the deck is based on The Dark Crystal characters. Some of the cards are placed together with certain characters and it fits the dark-fantasy style of the movie.

The deck is authored by Casey Gilly, who’s well-known for her work on Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer and Star Wars Adventures. You’ll also find her work on many Cinematic tarot decks, including The Lord of the Rings Tarot Deck and Stranger Things Tarot Deck.

2. The Unfolding Path Tarot by Athene Noctua

Athene Noctua both authored and illustrated The Unfolding Path Tarot: A 78 Tarot Guidebook. This tarot deck focuses on the different paths that life will take us on, ranging from the paths we walk to the people we meet.

This is Athene Noctua’s first take on the tarot deck and follows the traditional Rider-Waite teachings. Athene has also published two, short-form oracle card decks; Crystal Ball Pocket Oracle and The Witch’s Familiar Runic Oracle.

3. The Light Seer’s Pocket Tarot by Chris-Anne

Chris-Anne is releasing the pocket-sized version of The Light Seer’s Pocket Tarot. This tarot deck is widely known for its take on both our light and dark versions of ourselves. Now, it’s in a convenient travel-sized form for asking divine questions on the go.

While known for The Light Seer’s Tarot Deck, Chris-Anne also has two other tarot decks called The Muse Tarot and The Tarot of Curious Creatures. Pending the success of The Light Seer’s Pocket Tarot, this may mean there’s room for both of their other decks to release in a pocket-sized version.

4. Music Tarot: Be Guided by the Stars by Diana McMahon-Collis, Sophie Kemp, and Alexandria Hall

If you enjoy letting the “stars” be your guide, why not try letting music stars help you understand tarot as a divination tool? Music Tarot: Be Guided by the Stars by Diana McMahon-Collis, Sophie Kemp, and Alexandria Hall is a tarot deck based on present and past music stars. Ranging from Lorde to Prince, each star corresponds with a card.

Diana McMahon-Collis first found success with her tarot deck, Tattoo Tarot: Ink & Intuition. Which features traditional tattoo styles as the images for the cards.

5. Sefirot – The Spheres of Heaven Tarot by Georg Hobemeier, James Patton, Eliot Baum, and Viv Tanner

Sefirot – The Spheres of Heaven Tarot by Georg Hobemeier, James Patton, Eliot Baum, and Viv Tanner goes beyond the classic Rider-Waite tarot. Bringing together Marseille tarot as well. This tarot deck actually features 80 cards, rather than the standard 78. You’ll find the art style similar to a comic/web-toon style, making it appealing to a wide range of audiences.

This is everyone’s first tarot deck as far as we can tell. If you’re looking to adventure out from the traditional Rider-Waiter-style tarot decks, it might be a good idea to pick this one up.
