Charging crystals is different from cleansing crystals. When you cleanse your crystals, you are eliminating the negative energy that has been built up. Charging is the act of empowering your crystals with positive energy. But what crystals are worth charging and how do you charge crystals?

What Is Recharging a Crystal?

Recharging a crystal is the act of flushing out negative energy and replenishing it with positive energy. When you recharge your crystal, you are allowing it to absorb and utilize the positive energy that it receives from nature.

You typically recharge crystals after going through a very negative time. This can be from a break-up, work-related stress, or some other form of bad news. Your crystal is taking the negative energy during that time and redirecting it away from you.

You can choose to recharge your crystal during stressful times, just be sure to also charge it once the stressful times have passed. This is to ensure that when another negative or stressful event comes along, your crystals are good to go.

What Makes Charging Different From Cleansing?

Cleansing is the act of eliminating negative energies from your gemstones. This is a quicker process and beneficial for more neutral stones that do not necessarily radiate positive energy but do help redirect negative energies.

Do note, all crystals must go through a cleansing act first, before being able to be recharged.

Recharging crystals is meant for stones that radiate positive energy. Once a stone has been cleansed, you can continue doing the same ritual, or perform a different one to start the recharging process.

How Do You Charge Crystals?

Moonlight and Sunlight Recharging

There are several rituals to cleanse a crystal. The most prominent one is to put the stone out at sundown, preferably on the ground or with plants, and let it sit overnight until sunrise. Once the sun has risen, it is time to bring it back inside.

The sunsetting and moonlight is a great way to direct negative energy and waves out of the stone. This is the cleansing portion. The new light at sunrise fills the stone with more positive energy. Just be sure to pull in stones, as the harsh daylight can damage certain crystals.

Energy Recharging

Another common method is through utilizing your own positive energy. Your gems do get tired of always redirecting negative and can use positive vibes every now and again.

To fill a crystal with your own light or energy, you should envision your crystal in your mind. Feel the energy that comes off of it, or the lack of any energy if it has just been cleansed.

After finding the crystal in your mind, find your energy. It should be a little sun burning in your soul. Once you have found the sun, focus on expanding it with your breathing, until the light envelops the crystal and it is filled with positive energy.

Running Water Recharging

You can also try running water with your stones, though be careful with this method. Porous stones and soft stones can not take harsh amounts of running water which can erode them faster.

Standard ways to recharge a gem with running water is either through a running river, a waterfall, or the sea. Unlike your typical tap water, these water sources are thriving with life and consistently put out positive energy. They also take care of the cleansing portion, as the running water will take any negative energies out to sea to be cleansed from the earth through nature.

What Types of Crystals Should Be Charged?

Each type of stone will have a different method of being charged with positive energy. Tumbled and hard stones can typically be charged through any method. This means, whether you prefer running water or sunlight, the method is up to you.
